What students learn in study abroad: an intercultural perspective [Intercultural Stream]

As quoted on the BC government website “International education is the two-way flow of students, educators and ideas between countries.” Study abroad is now a component of almost every institution’s internationalization portfolio. In many cases, faculty are encouraged to design and set up study abroad programs, and international offices market and administer these programs. So, what do students learn? Specifically, how is intercultural competence addressed or structured in these programs and is it or how is it measured? As faculty, we will share our experiences of study abroad from an intercultural framework.
