BCCIE Summer Conference provides an essential platform for the growth of BC’s International Education sector. BCCIE’s annual conference brings together more than 500 participants from our province, across Canada and beyond our borders. The conference attracts senior leaders, researchers, practitioners, student service providers, administrators, government, NGOs, and students to explore these ideas with the aim of strengthening our work and taking steps towards advancing outstanding leadership in the fields of International Education in BC.

Angel Cachuela has
been with the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines for 19 years, and been in
different roles in the Embassy in Human Resources, Visa and Immigration,
Consular Services, before becoming a Trade Commissioner ten years ago. As a
Trade Commissioner, Angel has handled different sectors such as Labour Mobility
(facilitated and supported linkages between Canadian provinces and the
Philippine Department of Labor and Employment and assisted Canadian companies
to develop skills and competencies in the Philippines in support of labour
shortages in Canada, both of which were anchored on institutional linkages
focused on skills training and bridging programs between Canadian schools and
Philippine companies and institutions), Information Communications Technology
and Life Sciences (supported Canadian companies in the Philippines as they
advanced business interests and strategy in pursuit of business opportunities
in the market), and Consumer Products (facilitated successful commercial deals
related to the franchise of Canadian consumer brands in the Philippine market).
Angel has been responsible for the Education sector in the Philippine market
for 10 years, in conjunction with her role as Trade Commissioner for
Agriculture and agri-food products, promoting Canada as a source of safe and
reliable agri-food products in the Philippine market. She has likewise
performed concurrent roles such as Mission Team Coordinator during the Asia
Pacific Economic Cooperation in 2014, and as Visit Coordinator for the official
visits of the Canadian Trade Minister in 2014 and 2015 and Provincial Premiers
from 2014 to 2016. Angel was also the Airline Coordinator during the
repatriation of 1,700 Canadians in April 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19
pandemic, and is part of the Emergency Response Team. Angel is a Bachelor of
Commerce graduate, specializing in business management focused on
entrepreneurship.
